September 30, 2014: The Racial Divide



While gun violence is a troubling issue for the nation as a whole, there is a clear separation that exists among races, in terms of those killed by a gun. A new study analyzing more than a decade’s worth of data from the CDC shows that African Americans are more than twice as likely to be killed by a gun than white Americans. At the state and district level, this statistic is even more prominent. The study identifies the reason by saying, “Several factors have been posited that might explain these persistent racial differences, including socioeconomic determinants and increased firearm availability.” Read more:
